Em julho de 2020, conforme noticiado pela revista AutoEport, os pesquisadores do laboratório de segurança digital da startup PSafe, já haviam identificado cerca de 819 sites maliciosos que promoviam leilões falsos. Juntos, eles teriam atingido pelo menos 52 mil brasileiros.

O presidente da Associação dos Leiloeiros Oficiais do Estado de São Paulo (Aleoesp), Sérgio Villas Novas de Freitas, conta, em entrevista para o site Auto Esporte, que um veículo seminovo de até dois anos com quilometragem baixa pode alcançar um desconto de até 90% nos leilões. Ele revela que mesmo que o veículo tenha alguns danos, a compra pode valer a pena, já que os gastos do reparo e taxas adicionais, o valor do investimento ainda pode sair abaixo da tabela.
